{kate’s room}
thanks for laughing with me over the hair in the last post!
I did call the stylist and she said she’d fix it…
though I’m a bit nervous how the “fixed” hair might turn out.
but really. it’s not that big of deal, or atleast I don’t want it to be~when things like this happen I always feel that catch inside of realizing how much “security” is wrapped up in how we look.
then I think of some amazing women I happen to know..
women that remind me where our real security is found.
my friend, carrie. cancer survivor! and inspiration ~there is a beauty that cannot be bought or squeezed out of any tube…
it cannot be manufactured, plastered on, and it isn’t phony.
it’s the beauty of radiant joy that comes only from a heart at peace!yeah. that’s the kind of beauty I want. orange haired and all!!
—————–
Kate is having a party here tonight with some of her friends from school~
Chili’s on the stove. Cookies made. The fridge stocked with Dr. Pepper…
We’re ready!!
I thought I’d show you some pictures of her room since it’s CLEAN!
no. she’s not my neatest kid, but I’ve learned to just pull the door shut so I can’t see.
About once a week she’ll get it all in order and clothes put back where they go…
but she tells me it feels cozier to her to have it a little messy.
and I’m learning to be okay with my kids not being like me!
We do share similar taste in decorating, so that’s fun!
I’m glad I don’t have to battle with her over wanting Justin Bieber posters on the wall.
{actually. that’s my six year old!}
I’ve tried to help the older kids create spaces that are classic and not trendy –
things that will just grow with them through the years vs. things they’ll get tired of.
I love that I have some of the pieces of furniture and decorations from when I was a teen~As ever. rooms around here are always evolving~ it’s a never ending process.
But here’s what we’ve got so far in there…

kate loves burning this little lanterns at night~ it creates such pretty shadows on the wall

her “nichole” daybed~ given to us by a special friend!

little things around that are reminders of what she loves

kate dreams of going to paris someday~

and of course, she loves the ocean~ or anything by water!

For the curtains we just hang a couple of doilie table runners across the window..
then cut strips of fabric from an old curtain and created a scrap banner of sorts across the doilies.
Kate was really pleased with how it turned out~

her latest thing is teaching herself guitar~
so the other day we waded up a bunch of old sheets of music and hung down one wall.

some of her favorite books through the years~ ‘never say die’ a book about gladys aylward was mine when i was a girl

this old telephone table used to be my grandma’s~

most of all what I love best about this room is seeing this girl in it~
love hearing her music blaring out.
opening the door and seeing her laying on the floor working on homework…
looking up from that ponytail framed face with a, “hey, mom!”I’m so thankful to have a daughter that I not only love, but like being around!
so cool to see that friendship that grows with your kids~ what a blessing.
have a wonderful weekend friends~

absolutely stunning room ~
I love your daughter, too! She’s beautiful inside and out, like her mama and her JBiebs-lovin’ little sister.
That made me laugh out loud.
What a pretty room! Great taste, you two.
P.S. I love orange hair. And your friend Carrie has absolutely arresting eyes.
What a beautiful room!! I love it.
And your friend is beautiful too!
The two of you have impeccable taste!!
Absolutely gorgeous Amber. So perfect for a young lady! I love all the perfect little details and the fresh clean look! love.Love.LOVE!!!
Love it! Very relaxing, inspiring bedroom!
Lovely room, and girl. Seems like she looks a lot like you Amber. What fun to create together.
it’s just DREAMY! very feminine and soft…thanks for sharing!
and Kate? she is becoming such a beautiful young WomAn!!!
♥
She is beautiful… as always love all the pictures!
Love her room. I can’t believe how much Kate is growing up. Wow.
Your friend Carrie…Beautiful. =)
Happy Weekend to you.
Will come and do our girls’ rooms later in the year? You always do such a great job. You are one of the people who inspires me!
Carrie looks like she is/was feeling much better than me, when I had a bald chemo head! I had no energy and NO glow in my eyes. She looks really good!
Such a beautiful room for a beautiful girl!
love your relationship with her even through the screen.
happy parting!
LOVELY!
On your previous post I wanted to leave you a comment but xanga would let me….I bet your hair sure does “brighten” you day
I love how you’ve decorated Kate’s room. I need to come over to my room! In fact I might just do a post for all those good decorators out there to give me some ideas on what to hang over my white metal twin bed. I’ve got some “g’s” and metal flowers and I could add some pictures but I don’t know how to tie it all together.
love the details. breathtaking and lovely!!!
Amazing room!
That’s a beautiful room!
What a lovely feminine room! I feel the same way about making the kids rooms into something that grows with them. That reminds me that we really need to paint both the kids’ rooms again.
And I echo your thoughts about your daughter. These days there is often no one I would rather do girl things with than my daughter.
Oh. My. Word. That is stunning. You know what? I think I know what your little side home business should be (referring to your post about doing photography). The only reason I didn’t jump in and say “yeah, go for it” back then had nothing to do with your beautiful photography but with the oversaturated market. Unless maybe Canada isn’t. In which case you could definitely make a go of it, I think. But what if you would do something like this …. offering your services as a design consultant? You ROCK at this and you could do it in so many ways. Parties … birthday or other. Room makeovers. One of my aunts does it for a furniture business when they do homeshows. She does all the decor / shopping / set up. I am pretty sure you’d find a less-saturated market for this if you could find a way to market it. It is so much fun to shop when it’s someone else’s credit card (judging by the little bit I’ve done in David’s showroom and for their homeshows), plus it is somewhat flexible and doesn’t require overhead.
Awesome job on the room! I love Paris, too, and I have been dreaming of that very clock!
You did a great job. Very age appropriate and something she will love for years to come. Good team effort!
I am back here to show this to my 12 year old daughter. Except maybe I shouldn’t……;)
It’s a lovely, feminine room. The curtains and sheet music are my favorite part. Victoria likes the daybed very much.
And now I am off to finish cleaning the freezer. Now THAT doesn’t take much artistic talent.
xanga is still being all cranky with comments. i was glad to read that it’s not just me. not that i want anyone having the same problem…just that ha. that means this isn’t mine to fix. just mine to complain about to someone who can…and needs to. ;D
such a beautiful and soothing room. except for the paris part, it’s beautiful too, but it stirs me up instead, making my heart pound! (i am going there!)(can hardly wait!) big hugs to you and your daughter on a job well done. and also because…i love you both.
and btw, i love what michelle wrote ^^^. you could so do that!
Love, love, the sheet music on the wall! What a creative idea! The little patch of flowers on
the wall is just the right touch. The whole room is beautiful.
Blessings…
As I said, can you please come help me with my house? Everything you do is beautiful. You inspire me to be content where I am and use what I have.
i wanted to come back and say…your friend carrie…wow.
hugs.
i just sat here looking at her, she’s pretty.
and there’s so much light and LiFe in her eyes, she’s thriving…
i can tell from here.
@smilesbymiles - i think decorating would be my first love – over photography. it just seems “harder” to get into/start that sort of business. sometimes those things come through networking.. just based on who you know. back in the day when shayne did more construction/ remodeling we dreamed of that sort of thing. who knows? maybe someday~ i’ve told kate when she’s a bit older we could do our own business. i’d love to go into ppl’s home and just help them work w/ what they have. then again. there’s days i look around this place like, “seriously?”
thanks for the shot of confidence girl. you’re one of the best cheerleaders and your words bless my heart~
@quiet_hearts - not unless you like to color coordinate the jam jars or put the dressing bottles according to height.
haha. yes. guilty!
@down_onthefarm - huh, what!! did i miss something? paris.. seriously? i’ve got to hear about this!!
and yes. you’re right about carrie!
Lovely room, such sweet details, nice peaceful feelings. btw how is your hair color? A beautician streaked my hair once(and only once) with what was to be darker streaks within my blonde hair . Looked great in the shop but in the day light it was purple….yes it was PURPLE!!!! I looked like an aged punker! I simply bought a hair coloring kit and undid the damage myself…far cheaper than what I had paid for the PURPLE!!! Aren’t we something, the things we do to be attractive when most likely it just gives us confidence and that inner beauty or lack there of is what really shows.
@grace_to_be - Just remember that “harder” means there won’t be so many other people jumping into it either, less competition.
yes! paris! i am going!!!
i just *smile* don’t know when yet. someday…
I cannot get over her room… it’s so peaceful and BEAUTIFUL! I am one that LOVES the old things and I have also decorated Emma’s room with more of the timeless feel with things I have had since I was a kid or teenager. However, I happen to LOVE color and I struggle to bring it together into a cohesive look…. so the rooms evolve. Letting my rooms evolve is something I’m beginning to enjoy though!
I love her room!! Good job guys!
She’s a beauty, for sure, and her room…I could just move in! Going to Paris is something I dream of doing. I hope Kate gets to go someday! My walls are the same color! I love the special touches, especially the lanterns! Goodness, I may have to do that somewhere in my house. As for your cancer friend….she’s beautiful!
what a beautiful room for a beautiful girl!
You did a beautiful job on this!
