  • Wow. You are braver than I.

  • HA! I should say something supportive and cute about dogs but I will say this instead: steven brought home a dog last spring for the boys. I was totally against it. Nothing against the dog, he’s perfectly wonderful at being a dog.

I’m just glad to see someone else in the same boat as me. *evil laugh*

Not the Pet Lover in our home

  • @bethro78 - i’m actually a huge pet lover – only OUTSIDE! the ocd in me just tries to keep my eyes up and not look down at the floor too often.. at things like hair and muddy paw prints and chewed up pillows.. that sort of thing. ;)

  • He is pretty cute – and that coming from one who is definitely and “outside dog” person! At least he’s more handsome than the last Winston I knew! That Winston had way more skin than dog resulting in wrinkles all over! Curls are cuter. :)

  • @grace_to_be -

he looks like a stuffed animal, which is pretty cute. our dog is an outside dog, but he’s a border collie and he needs stuff to do constantly. Since even my 5 kids can’t provide THAT much activity, he has torn up everything in our back yard and dug many holes. I miss the grass, and the level ground. And I miss having a yard that didn’t look like a disaster recently happened there.

All that said, he is really cute. And it’s handy the way he barks at strangers.

  • @grace_to_be -

Oh, and he likes me the best. What is up with that?? He’ll do anything I say and he won’t jump on me. He does everyone else though. ha.

  • Wow…. he’s just tooo cute!!!

  • Love Winston’s name:)

…not so much a pet lover inside or out but he really is cute!

  • Oh, my goodness – he is ADORABLE!!!  I am definitely a pet lover, specifically dogs (since you really shouldn’t keep a horse inside!) and we do have 2 dogs in the house.  Both small, and only one sheds, but not much.  What breed is he?  My niece suggested a “Portuguese Water Dog”, but I’m not super familiar with the breed.  Whatever he is, I this he’s gorgeous, and I’d be one of your family who is begging you to let him sleep with me!!

  • ADORABLE! winston will grow on you! :)

  • He’s cute, and my Emmy would LOVE him, but I really don’t want a dog in the house. Still, I have actually considered it since she loves dogs so much, and she’s not the happiest child. Amazing what one will do for their kids!!

  • I love house animals – as long as they aren’t in my house. :)

  • @cerwindoris - haha. that made me laugh! wish there were like buttons, like on facebook! :)

  • Oh, how sweet! He (I assume it is a he?) looks like our Mindy did. She was the best dog we ever had.

  • @grace_to_be - I should have clarified. It doesn’t bother me if someone brings an animal to my house, as long as I am not responsible for its care. Our youngest daughter raises orphaned animals until they can be on their own, and had a tiny baby goat and a very tiny baby squirrel here last night. She got four, day-old squirrels last week, but only one made it, and it still looks too small to survive. the goat weighted a pound when it was born, and because it was a runt (I think the mother had 3) she wouldn’t care for it. She will probably have it for a month until it can go back to the farm. I runs around the house wearing a diaper. :)

  • HE’S ADORABLE!! EVERY FAMILY SHOULD HAVE A DOG.

  • Lily Kate said “cute dog!”  I am not an animal lover but some things you do out of love and sacrifice, right?!  :)   Hope Winston adjusts well to his new home!

  • He is so cute. Being a dog lover, whose husband has never let us have one, I think your children will thank you

  • Ok, first I was thinking baby. ;)

Hello Winston. My children looked at your picture and said..”Oh wow”, “He’s super cute”, “Yeah, that’s a nice dog”, and finally “Can we get one Mom?”.
Even though you are cute and curly, I am glad you are part of the Hutchin’s home instead of ours.  You do not make Amber look fat! ;) Ha!

  • Awwwww! Such a cutie patootie!!

  • Winston is adorable, yes. Amber is nuts, yes. God gives you grace and strength and love in great, needed proportions every day, yes. Amber will provide us reader/fans with lots of cute photos with Winston in them, HOPEfully YES!!!!  <3

  • Love your blog, Amber, read it often, but haven’t had a chance to comment. I really appreciate your focus on Jesus, and your real approach to living your life as His child in this crazy world. Love your new addition, as a mom of four myself, just wondering how the white couches vs dog is working. I am thinking of doing the Ikea Ektorp couches and would like to hear from someone who has experience, lol!

  • oh my WORD. doesn’t matter what you think; *i* LOVE him !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • a cutie! hope it works out for y’all,, dogs are lots of work!

  • I don’t dare show this post to my daughter!  She is sure we NEED a dog!!!

  • such a cutie! I hope her good looks are making up for any misbehavior :P

  • He’s adorable.I <3 dogs but we are currently dogless, mostly because I don’t have the time or energy to train a puppy right now.And it’s kind of nice of not sweeping up dog hair constantly and wiping up muddy pawprints.

  • He sure is cute… but I’ll let you have him. :)
I do think it’s really awesome though when parents go against their natural grain just because they know it will mean a lot to their kids. Cheers to you!

  • Gorgeous!!!!! I want to hug it!

  • WHAT kind of dog is WINSTON? Is he a puppy? How old is he? YES! You KNOW I am a dog lover! If every family member pitches in, taking the responsibility to train Winston, he just may return years of JOY! Mosie has ministered to me countless times….and never more than recently. His faithful, sticking-closer-than-a-brother represents Jesus to me. I hope Winston becomes a family joy for you all! I just wanna squeeze him!

  • Hi Amber!  He is so adorable! Where are his eyes!!! I will do dogcare for you when you need to go away for several days!! :) )  I grew up on a farm (wonderful place to be) and we ALWAYS had a dog. Love them….but my dear best friend, didn’t, so after we were married, we had/have a cat! :)  Must say we haven’t had a mouse in the house for 34 years!! Seriously.

  • You won’t be able to keep yourself from falling in love with that little fellow.

  • Oh my, he’s gorgeous. Be still my canine lovin’ heart.

  • I had to laugh. This may be your shortest post ever…
and because Bri talked us into a dog when she was 10,
but I’m the one who fed it, walked it and cleaned up after it!
Yet, he was a wonderful companion for us all and a beloved pet.

Enjoy this season in your life

  • Cute dog.I’m not an inside dog lover myself but my wife loves them.We have a rescued dog we’ve had for 12 years but she has a tumor the size of a volleyball around her stomach. My wife will be broken to pieces when she dies and I was hoping to have a rest from having any dogs but she says we are getting another one after she is gone.Been married almost 32 years and have always had dogs.I hate the dog hairs and the mess they bring in when its raining.

  • Hello Winston, I think you’re super cute! =)

  • ummm hi winston. it’s cindy. and while i’m pleased to meet ya…i’m really pleased mostly that you are at amber’s house. and not mine. and i won’t let my kids see this post and what a cool mom that kate, ben, emma and reese have.

  • Aw. Winston is adorable! I am with you on outside pets too. I have 2 dogs and currently one is in the house because my daughter keeps begging me, “can he please stay in and play with me?!” But… we’ll see how long I can stand it. Then again, I live in CA where the weather never gets much colder than 60. ;) Is he a puppy?

  • Ohhh oh my. I’m happy for you but def wouldn’t be happy if Winston came to stay with me. :)

  • What a cute doggie! I’ve just spent the last half hour catching up on your older posts. I’ve been MIA for a while; but, hopefully, I won’t be away this much in the future! xo xo

  • Winston is a perfect name for him. :)

  • @bethro78 - i had this experience with cats when i wasn’t so found of them. I think its just something they sense…and want to win you over to their side. border collies are very very smart dogs and do need alot of stuff to do. i’m sorry that he’s taken to destroying your hard for his ‘something to do’. I hope you can find something that he loves equally as m uch and perhaps you can return to some semblence of an unscathed yard with some grass ;)

  • oh Winston…how adorable you are. I’m guessing that the kids love him…i can totally see him and Emma being pals and getting into mischief together ;) perhaps i’m off on that…but i can just imagine her loving on him most of all..though i certainly only know your kids a little bit ;) i’m totally an indoor dog kind of girl…it hurts my heart when dogs are outside…though i totally get it and know that there is a place for that too. i hope that you and he are able to find a good place where you are both good for each other. what kind of dog is he? my parents took a trip up to owen sound a couple weekends ago and found a place that has both cockapoos and golden doodles and its a good thing iw asn’t along cause i’m pretty sure i would hve staged a protest until we had a dog coming home with us in the car ;) my mom says maybe in April…so i’m looking forward to that possibility! love you girl. hoping that this summer i can find my way up to your place to have some fun times together…we’ll see what works out ;)

  • He is adorable, congrats!!!!

  • @pettybunch - yes. your niece is right! :) @bethro78 -  haha. same w/ this one. he follows me everywhere and lays at my feet. i started thinking i was giving him a complex.. like he NEEDS my approval. so i’m working on it! :/ :) @ata_grandma - yes. it’s a he! :) @richlyblest - haha. amazing for sure!! {hence the new dog} ;) @cerwindoris -  so cool that your daughter does that.. is it something she started on her own, or a organization she works for?? i have a child here that’s expressed interest in animal rescue like that.@Elizabethmarie_1 -  he makes me HUGE!! ;) @Richgem -  haha!!!!

  • @chulya - julie, he’s a Portuguese Water Dog. a year and a half old. and very sweet natured and SMART! oh my word, but he’s smart. he’s been well trained and so far, all the rules we’ve set for him, he’s quick to catch on to. if we had to have a dog i really think he’s the best we could have gotten. the only thing i don’t like is THE HAIR!! i’m a bit of a neat freak and though he’s hypo-allergenic, still.. i don’t think there’s such a thing as a non shedding dog!! ;) he’s super good w/ reese too. which was a big concern of mine.@threejoys - growing up in the country too, we always had dogs as well. but outside! ;) i agreed to this one though because i really think it’s good for the kids to be raised w/ animals. and since we don’t live on a farm – - a dog will have to do! kate and shayne are really allergic to cats. and his eyes. haha. they’re there! i feel like sometimes i need to part them and look and see what kind of expression he has when he’s just standing there in the kitchen staring at me while i’m cooking or something. like, “do you have angry eyes? or sad eyes?” hard to tell what he’s thinking when you can’t see his eyes!! @maryhurlbut -  haha. yes. short post! i just didn’t know what to say. still don’t. ;) @JsSteph7 -  he’s a year and a half. and bigger than i think he looks like he is in this picture of him. on being inside. ugg. yes. oh, the things we do for our kiddos!! @cherylyn_p - i know. i’ve missed you! xo@mytoesareblue - so far, ben is his best friend. but emma runs a close second. she jsut doens’t wrestle around w/ him like ben does. ;) and yes. please come up this summer. we’d love it. and if you get a dog- bring him to meet winston!! :)

  • @claspells - well, when i first read your comment the other day {but didn’t get time to answer} i was GOING to say, he doesn’t even go in that room! he stays mostly in the family room, or kitchen.. usually wherever we are. and since getting furniture in our family room {a dark brown leather} ;) we’re hardly in the living room much anymore. BUT.. all that to say. since your comment – - i came down the other morning and he was in there LAYING on one of the couches. which was fine. he’s hypo allergenic, so not much hair. but still.. there’s no such thing as a non shedding dog!! :/ mainly, i don’t want him to get into the habit of thinking that’s his new bed or something.

but then, a day or so later, he came in one afternoon w/ muddy paws and before i could wipe them off, was in there where one of the kids was doing homework, and jumped up on the arm of the couch! :( {big muddy swipe right down the side} so. i need to take the slipcovers off and wash them.

all in all, the couches have been great! i’ve washed them maybe 4 times since having them, and just plain old bleach seems to get them pretty clean. there’s a blog called, dreamywhites, where she shares some “secrets” to keeping your whites white. i remember seeing it once, actually before i had my white couches, and was just thinking the other day i should go look it up again and get her tips. ;)

i love the crispness of the white. after years of browns! and i think it’s helped liberate me a little with some of my ocd neat freak tendencies!! ;) because yes. white is white. and it does get dirty and show it more than a darker color!

thanks for your comment. always fun knowing who’s reading! :)

  • Our daughter helps orphaned animals on her own – with the help of a veterinarian. The vet will recommend her when someone comes to him with an orphaned animal. Look for pictures on my blog in a day or two.

  • where did you get him from? a portugeus water dog isn’t one that is on our nonallergenic list but it sounds like it could make the list.

  • @cerwindoris - okay, i will! such a neat thing.. has she always loved animals? even as a kid?

@mytoesareblue - he belonged to shayne’s uncle. and i’m pretty sure they said he’s nonallergenic. kate is usually pretty sensitive w/ her allergies, but so far she’s doing great w/ him in the house.

  • She did love them as a kid, but helping orphaned new borns just kind of happened in the past few years.

  • I just posted the animal photos you wanted to see. :)
