{a little bit of fall_ing}
so, october has arrived and flung it’s colors in place of summer..
reminding us all over again why we always fall in love with this season.
her first week certainly did not disappoint with glorious sunny days.
and brisk nights that made us pile on extra blankets~
but, of course, never close the windows.
there’s just something about that chilly leave scented autumn air stealing through the windows at night that is so cozy, isn’t there?
the little girls and i went for a walk in the woods one afternoon.
and in true shanda-esque
form we explored through nature, and found all kinds of beauty.

then, we brought some of the beauty inside to add a little fallish feel to the house~
emma and i hot glued these leaves onto black construction paper and put them in a frame.

the extra leaves went into a jar.

this leaf wreath below we made out of paper leaves…
which turned out looking a bit like a poinsettia.
but that’s okay. we can just keep it out till christmas then.

using a book page background for the poinsettia leaves
reminded me of this..
a few wks ago when company was coming, a empty picture frame was bugging me.
so i just stuffed some book pages in and problem solved!
which, by the way, book pages are my new favorite thing right now.
did you see this? love.
i’m working on wallpapering one of kate’s walls in pages.
that’s alot of books, dude!

this tin thingy {since i don’t know what to call it}
came from a broken sign that i used to put on my patio each fall..
i was going to throw it away but thought maybe i could do something with it.
last year i put it with the pumpkins and such on the mantle, and this..
just a piece of cardboard in a frame with the “tin thingy “shoved in the sides!
i love that about decorating.
that there’s no rules or rhyme or reason.
it can be just cause you thought it would be nice to hot glue some leaves on construction paper with your girl!
and .. if you could sum up your favorite part of fall, what would it be?
what’s better than a apple a day? how about two!

And book pages, I didn’t click on your link, but somewhere the web, forget where, a lady did a whole book page themed party. It was very cool, but such alota book pages! I’m not that dedicated to having gorgeous party decor
very pretty decor ideas.
Happy day, friend.
I have a friend who just photographed a wedding and all of the flowers, her boquet, flower girls, centerpieces, all of it…made of paper! Talk about saving money!!!
She is one of my favorite photographers….here is the link to the wedding and her blog. http://www.maggiefortsonblog.com/?p=11579
(Her brother is singing the song in the background.
His name is Andrew Belle. Great singer/songwriter. Maybe you guys already heard of him?)
Anyway, back to YOUR post! Love all your photos! The woods are gorgeous.
My favorite part of fall? How can I pick just one thing?!? The hot cider, the pretty leaves, the donuts, the coziness of the season, the brisk morning air, all the little festivals, raking, the smell of burning leaves…etc. =)
Amber, your site is such an inspiration! You have a gift for seeing the beauty of this world. God bless you my beautiful friend, you help me see the beauty around me.
You’ve captured the heart of autumn, down to the apple juices running down sweet little arms. LOVE~
~and Josey loves the music on your site.
@WildWomanOfTheWest - i wish they had like buttons on xanga!
:)
@fruitloops115 - too funny.. that’s the very site i linked!
@Elizabethmarie_1 - those bouquets are THE CUTEST!! what a clever idea~
Your posts are so inspiring. I would love to stop by for a visit, and sit and sip Coffee together! I know I would be made feel so welcome and come away feeling SO refreshed. But since it’s not that easy to stop in for a visit, I will just enjoy your updates… And baby dear with the apples…The first thing that caught my eye was the tiny little teeth marks/bites taken out of the apple. Just love it! My favorites about fall…Fresh apples by the bin. Starting my cookstove in the mornings and sitting round it with the children. Cool evenings on the deck soaking in the beauty. Mornings looking out at the sun coming up and shining on the trees that are changing in color.. fixing a big thermos of hot chocolate and going to the back 40 together to cut wood. There is so much about fall that I love!! Thanks for brightening my day!
Fall is just SO beautiful, isn’t it?? Loved that picture of the different colored leaves with the pine cone resting on top of them.
And you are so creative…I envy that!
Your decorations are quite eye catching.
Love it! This is my favorite time of year…..
One of the things I miss the most about my kids being littl-er and me being a stay-at-home-mom is the walks we used to take….pretty much weekly. When things would start to get hairy, that was usually my go-to solution. ‘come on everybody, let’s go for a walk’
BUT
time marches on, and now I have other things to enjoy with them.
Fun autumn ideas, Amber.
You and your creativity….
if I didn’t like you so much I think I’d be jealous!
So beautiful! Love fall walks! And little Reese is just too sweet.
Your creativity is amazing!
i think that i really like the changes that each season brings as it rolls around.
i love fall for the crisp air, warm sun and somehow feeling energized as nature prepares to rest. and mostly after that
it’s my new boots this year. and scarves and sweaters and jackets and layering. yeah. i think it’s the clothes and accessories. ohbrother.
and then i only like winter for the first snow and Christmas, so by dec 26th i’m pretty much done with being cold.
your pictures make me happy. and sweet reese. and your creativity makes me want to just plain copy-cat! i love what you did!
I love the color, the cozy, the fireplace, the holidays, the relief from the heat of summer…..all that.
Oh and I really needed this post to get me out of a pit I was getting bogged down in!! So thank you. School is about to kill me. I’m drowning in laundry and just can’t seem to get ahead, much less stay ahead. The beautiful pics and instrumental music has been therapeutic this five minutes. Yep…..I think you just saved this Friday in the Wall household.
Oh my word, Canada is beautiful. So lucky it has you to do it justice!! My favorite diptych is the one of the tree branches from afar off, and then all of a sudden, those bright pops of color in leaves close up. You’re amazing, my friend!
Wowsers, you do make fall look beautiful! I love the woods in your pictures … so many hardwoods! The woods around here tend to be scrubbier and full of underbrush. Especially the stuff right around our house. Love the crafty leaves on construction paper! You’re making me want to go on a walk!
awww, Reece double fisting the apples is soo precious. love the pictures…some of the flares in them are sooo gorgeous!! and the leaves just glow with the beauty of your walk. so glad that you and Emma could make use of them as artwork…love that.
thanks for sharing my dear…it was indeed a very ‘shanda-esque’ walk
Such loveliness! We don’t get much Autumn around our part of Texas. We’ve had lows in the mid 50s a couple of nights, but the highs are still in the mid to high 80s, and this week back in the 90s. Then you add the drought, many of our trees already look like winter – brown or completely bare! So your pics are refreshing!! And any pics of your children perk up my day – they are beautiful, and so at ease with a camera pointed at them!
I chuckled when I read down_onthefarm‘s comment about Fall clothing! Since we don’t really have much of the other beauties of Autumn, I have to admit that getting my boots out is a BIG highlight for me!!
Have a blessed weekend!!
I just can’t get enough of these pictures Amber! GORGEOUS! Canada… you do not disappoint when it comes to fall. Love you new header too! The fall leaves on the black construction paper? That’s brilliant! Does it sound like I’m gushing? Because I am.
shanda-esque… I like that word… it’s a good word
I like your photos.

Wonderful Fall pictures and your comments were right on! Amber is just tooooo cute! Have a great weekend!!!!
Amber, you are so inspiring. Thank you for being you.

I loved the apple juice dripping off little one’s arm!
Living in the south now I miss the bright colorful trees we always enjoyed up north!
But next weekend I’ll enjoy them at my 60th class reunion when I head north east!
Beautiful colors!
i love your creative decorating and how you can make something cool out of such simple stuff. Love the book page site and it’s amazing all the stuff you can make with pages! Reminds me of when I went to STEP I decided to decorate our group room with newspaper and it actually turned out really cool and was super easy. After it was all done the room even smelled like newspaper
