  • {and how’s this done again?}

i smile to myself at her little legs dangling over the side of the toilet kicking happily.

i wonder if my kids know how clueless i so often am right along side them at all this parenting stuff.
from potty training to 2nd graders to teenage boys and teenage girls!

there’s that weariness that makes you think you’ve done it all for a thousand years.
but the inadequacy that reminds you, it’s all for the first time.
that really no matter how many times it’s always different because each child is!
so i learn and relearn, just as they are. again and again.

mom, i know you reassured me all those years ago with kate that no child ever went to their wedding day wearing a diaper…

well, i’m having my doubts! ;)

  • Adorable! I love the motivation! (such pretty candies!) And how do you get your eye brows to arch like that? I wish I could do that. I can only do a snarky lip. I hope your little Dear catches on quickly and you can be freed from the expense of diapers! I do SO love your soft photography!

  • lol..love it! Good thing she is sooo darn cute, helps with the grace part. Oooh the candy looks good and such pretty glass jars and garland!
Sure hope adorable Reese potty trains for you soon and keeps the potty messes to a minimum. Happy Monday!

  • AHHHH, the potty training. I feel for you! Seems like when you are in the midst of it you think that your entire house has got to be contaminated with urine ;) . Praying for a quick learner and lots of patience.

Love the garland and the glass jars with rewards…oh, and the rewards too.

  • I love her little knee socks and big girl pants! So Adorable!!!!
    Happy Monday to you.

  • oh, i hate potty training SO SO much! I kind of got Emmy done, but she doesn’t stay dry at night (far from it!) and since i still have her in the crib, there’s not much she can do if she needs to go. my need for her to be completely out of diapers is overshadowed by how much i like that she can’t get out of her crib and harass me! and she’s often happier there than when she’s out and about. and i know she doesn’t have the self-discipline to stay in bed herself, and i for one, am not ready to teach her!!

  • aww! she’s such a cutie! potty training seems like such a distant memory for me at the moment and yet, i have a feeling it will be here all too soon once again!
i love the picture of Shayne with Reese and your caption for that. oh, that sounds so familiar! thank God for daddys!
    love to you sweet friend!

  • she’s a super darling little thing.
hear, hear on forgetting how to do things …. i just did them.
except the teenage boy & girl part – that’s where i come hunting up your wisdom!!
happy panty collecting …. you know you’ll need a mountain of them : )

  • I think every mom has toilet training stories! I will have to remember to tell my daughter what your mom said, about no bride in diapers. She will get it eventually. I know one of my friends had a “panty party” for her little girl. Even the balloons were wearing panties, and there was a cake shaped like panties. All the other little girls brought a pretty pair of undies, and they had a swap. It was cute, and a good motivation. (It did not happen until Elizabeth was trained!)

  • Oh, this is just CUTE! And we can laugh, because we’re not the mom potty-training! :)
I can’t believe little Reese is old enough for that. WOW. Where did time go?!
It seems like she just celebrated her first birthday!

And I’m trying to peek in your pictures… :)
    The pretty pink kitchen!
    The silverware on wood? canvas?
I’m kinda nosy like that. :)

    xoxo

  • Such a big girl now Just think of the freedom of no more diapers…and the money you will save! Good luck!

  • so very precious. enjoy these moments.

  • what a cutie!!!! love that knee sock/yellow panties combo…adorable ;) let me know when you figure it out…i’m sure i could use the pointers when the day comes!

  • The pictures made me LoL! I’m glad it’s normal to be overwhelmed now and again even when you’re a pro such as yourself.

(I think the potty-chair-pick should be your new profile pic! )

  • Wishing you luck!!! :)

  • Oh goodness, she is just a walking doll! But isn’t it the truth that potty training can bring out the insecurities like none other. Honestly, I used to say I dreaded childbirth less. :) Good luck with that process.

  • @lifeisadance - i’m kinda “nosy” just like that too! :)

  • i’m feeling the i can relate laughter! but there’s no way that THAT angelic looking doll could be one lick of trouble. surely you jest. ;)
there IS so much, isn’t there? i hear you! with our precious children that leaves us weary in our cluelessness… thankfully the JOY is like that too—individual and unique. good luck with the training. hers and yours. :) loveLOVE to all.

  • and… Happy Birthday wishes a tiny bit early!
i hope that you have an amazing day dear friend.
love what you have brought to my life…xoxo

  • @Richgem - well. there’s a website called, “how to arch your eyebrows weird!” ;) ) haha. actually, i have NO idea how my eye brows go that way. i think it looks pretty scary myself!!!

  • @srheam - ”the whole house contaminated with urine..” yes, EXACTLY! :/

  • @richlyblest - i think every mom knows when their child is ready.. i agree that having her potty trained is probably lower down the list than losing that bit of extra freedom having her stay in bed affords. i think i’d much rather keep reesey in diapers and having her STAY in bed. but since she’s not… :(

  • @H0LDfast - YES! the panty collecting. and guess what? my little girl is oh, so particular about the fit and even color. like, what two year old does that?? how does she even know.. or care? i afraid i see some clothes battles in my future with this one! ;)

  • @DanishDoll - balloons in panties.. LOVE that!

  • @lifeisadance - that little pink kitchen was her christmas gift this year! it was in the kitchen where she could cook by mommy.. but if you look close at some of those pics you can see the black lines sticking out the side on the wall.. that’s where she debuted her artistry skills w/ the marker! the kitchen set now helps to hide some of that. :) )

and the silverware is yes, on wood. i found it at homegoods a few years back. you can’t really see but all around my chalkboard i have silverware pics of different kinds.. though after christmas i did some rearranging so their all around the kitchen now. but anyway. for some reason i’m always drawn to pictures of silverware! i’ve noticed that giant fork in your dining room in some of YOUR pics and have wondered where you found that at. see, we’re all kinda nosy that way! ;) )

  • @babybreathblossoms - haha. i’m no pro, and yes! often overwhelmed. ;)

  • @down_onthefarm - hmm.. let’s see. today she only unrolled all the toilet paper in the bathtub full of water. got into nail polish and attempted to paint her nails along w/ the bathroom countertop. got into kate’s makeup. ATE half of the sponge thingy inside the powder compact. and spilled a box of cereal all over my bed! i think there were other things but i’m too tired now to remember. haha! but yes.. that little angelic face makes up for alot of that mischievousness!! ;) )

and **thank you** for the sweet wishes. i’m feeling my happy birthday smile breaking already! :) ) ly~

  • you put it all so beautifully :o ) – potty training is a lovely time – they’re trying desperately to grow up and not need diapers, yet occasionally just get so engrossed in what they’re doing…..

Wouldn’t have missed mine going through it for the world

  • @grace_to_be -

they just really can’t make our lives too easy, now can they?!! at least you can do that training in cute style, though! our potty training looked a lot less glamorous!

  • some catch on so quick and others it’s like. . . forever! We are amazed around here we only have one in diapers, not two, or three at a time. . . and I can’t wait to have none in diapers, as she needs a change right now. :)
    Have a blessed day!

  • We’ve only taken Oliver to the potty a few times. He’s still kind of afraid of the toilet.

He does enjoy a good long pee when he first gets in the bathtub though.

  • Love it! I hear ya! Potty training my 6th has proved to be the hardest of all my kids and keeps me humble. They are all so different, and each a true blessing! AND…all the stages at the same time…. Teens, preteens, young ones learning multiplication tables, learning to read, and then there is the good ole potty training…. the older I get the more I realize just how little I know. so thankful for grace! Have a wonderful day, friend! Happy birthday!!!

  • how cute! Is that motivation (candy) for you too? :P
